A beginner to intermediate level course for wine enthusiasts and for those entering or working within the wine and hospitality trades.

What the course is about

The course offers insight of the main grape varieties, the important wine regions in which they are grown and the different styles of wine produced. Tasting skills are developed throughout the course with the sampling of forty-eight different wines.

The course is for those with little or no prior wine knowledge.

Learning outcome

The qualification provides knowledge of the following:

  • How wine is made
  • The important wine-producing regions of the world
  • The main black and white grape varieties and their characteristics
  • The factors influencing wine style
  • The production of sparkling, sweet and fortified wines
  • Wine labelling terminology
  • Food and wine pairing
  • Describing wine using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine

The course ends with a 50 multiple-choice-question paper to be completed within one hour. Successful completion of the exam leads to the internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Award in Wines certificate.

Option 1:  CLASSROOM – Wednesday mornings, 30th of September, 7th and 14th of October 2020 and 4th of November 2020.
4 mornings in total with exam on the last morning

Time: 9h00-14h00

Option 2: CLASSROOM – Saturday mornings  28th of November, 12th of December 2020, 16th and 23rd of January 2021.  1 hour exam on the 6th of February.
Time: 9h30-14h30

Option 3: CLASSROOM – Tuesday evenings,  16th and 23rd of February, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th of March, 13th, 20th and 27th of April 2021. Exam on the 27th of April or to be decided with students to suit them.
9 evenings in total.
Time: 18h30-20h30

Option 4:  ONLINE – Wednesday mornings, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st of March 2021. Exam on the 14th of April or to be decided with students to suit them. 
4 mornings in total with exam on the last morning.

Time: 9h00-14h00

Option 5: CLASSROOM – Saturday mornings  17th of April, 24th of April, 8th and 22nd of May 2021.  1 hour exam on the 29th of May or to be decided with students to suit them.
